Unbox the Room

Unwind with Unbox the Room, a cozy browser-based puzzle game about organizing belongings, and uncovering a life story as you move between different rooms.

Unbox the Room – A Relaxing Space-Organizing Game

Unbox the Room is a simulation game blending puzzle-solving with room decoration, offering a gentle experience centered on unpacking boxes and arranging their contents. Free from timers, scores, or the pressure to rush, you can take your time examining each item and finding its perfect spot. Through a series of moves spanning 1997 to 2018, the rooms gradually reveal the interests, relationships, career, and life milestones of a character known to you only through the spaces she leaves behind.

How to Play Unbox the Room

Each level in Unbox the Room begins with boxes filled with personal belongings. Open each box, take out the items, and find the right place for them in the room. Books belong on shelves, kitchenware goes in the kitchen area, and clothes fit best in closets or drawers. Use size, shape, function, and the surrounding space to guide your choices. While you are free to arrange items as you please, each object has a logical place; if an item is misplaced, the spot will be highlighted so you can make adjustments.

Transform an Empty Room into a Cozy Space

At the start, the room in Unbox the Room may feel quite bare. As you unpack items and place them correctly, the space gradually comes together and feels more alive. Bookshelves, tables, beds, cabinets, drawers, and other surfaces all become part of the puzzle. You don't just solve the question of "where does this item go?"; you also discover how objects come together to create a home that feels natural and lived-in.

Each Room Is a Piece of the Story

Unbox the Room takes players through various stages of a character's life, spanning from 1997 to 2018. The rooms evolve over time—from a compact personal space to a college dorm, a shared apartment, and eventually, a house. Instead of relying on lengthy dialogue, the game uses objects and their arrangement to convey the narrative. An item appearing, disappearing, or shifting location between moves can serve as a significant detail.

Objects Tell the Story Instead of Dialogue

Books, clothing, decorations, and everyday items are more than just puzzle components; they reflect the character's interests, career, relationships, and life changes.
